Background and Purpose: compare the disturbance tolerance, stress coping strategies and quality of life among mothers with Intelletual Disability children and mothers with normal children in Gorgan city.
Method: The current research is a causal-comparative method. The statistical population included all mothers with intellectually disabled children who referred to speech and language pathology centers in Gorgan, 40 of them were selected based on the available sampling method, And 40 mothers with normal children were selected from the schools of Gorgan in the comparison group. Research tools include disturbance tolerance by Sevens et al.; Endler and Parker's stress coping strategies and World Health Organization's quality of life.
Results: The findings indicated that there is a difference between the amount of disturbance tolerance, stress coping strategies and quality of life among mothers with intellectually disabled children and mothers with normal children; there is a significant difference. So that the amount of disturbance tolerance and quality of life in mothers with intellectually disabled children compared to mothers with normal children; has been significantly low. It was also observed that mothers with intellectually disabled children significantly use more emotion-oriented and avoidant stress coping strategies.
Conclusion: mothers with Intelletual Disability children endure more stress and it seems that they have a lower quality despite the presence of Intelletual Disability children. The presence of a child with special intellectual conditions causes mothers to use emotion-oriented strategies.
