Abstract
The purpose of the research was to reliably validate the self-report questionnaire on learned helplessness and mastery
Background & Purpose: The purpose of the research was to reliably and validate the self-report questionnaire on learned helplessness and mastery orientation of Sorrenti et al. (2014) in Iranian students.
Method: The research method was a descriptive survey. The statistical research population was 2550 students who were studying in the first and second secondary high schools of Anar City, 200 students were selected by random stratified sampling based on Morgan's table and answered the questionnaires of Learned Helplessness and Goal Orientation Questionnaire Sorrenti et al., Quinnells and Nelson's Learned Helplessness, Rutter's Locus of Control, Elliott's Achievement Goal and the goal Orientation of Midgley et al. To analyze the data, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis methods, divergent and convergent validity, and reliability methods were used.
results: The results of construct validity (exploratory) using the method of principal components and Promax rotation showed two factors of learned helplessness and mastery orientation, which were also confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. The results of convergent and divergent validity and reliability by Cronbach's alpha and composite methods also showed that the learned helplessness factor has better convergent and divergent validity and reliability than the mastery orientation subscale. The results of convergent and divergent validity and reliability by Cronbach's alpha method and the composite also showed that the learned helplessness factor has better convergent and divergent validity and reliability than the mastery orientation factor. According to the obtained results, the learned helplessness factor can be used as a short form compared to the mastery orientation factor in the Iranian sample, but caution should be used in utilizing the mastery orientation factor.
